2019 Portugal Day/Portuguese Kids (English Version)
Updated: Aug 28, 2019
June 8th was a momentous day for the Portuguese community in Texas as we celebrated Día de Portugal de Camões e das Comunidades Portuguesas.
We witnessed history in the making as over 200 members of the Portuguese community in Texas gathered for the first time ever.
The vibe in the Canyon Creek Country Club in Richardson was electric, as the place
overflowed with unity, pride, culture, and camaraderie. After the many months of
planning by TXPALC President Isabel Pires and the committee members, seeing the
happiness in everyone’s faces, made it all worth the effort. It was truly inspiring to see
both, youth and adults, wearing the beautiful flag colors of verde e vermelho. It was
evident that Portuguese roots were present and well-represented in everyone.
Support for TXPALC extended all the way to Portugal, as Sr. José Ivo, The Honorary
Cônsul of Portugal in Houston, read a letter from President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa,
who sent his best regards from Portugal. Cônsul Ivo was also presented with an award
for his support and dedication.
It was wonderful to witness TXPALC founder Isabel Pires
receive a well-deserved recognition for being an outstanding Portuguese leader in Texas.
TXPALC Committee Members were also presented with an award of excellence for their service to the Portuguese community.
Part of our civic duties is to make sure that everyone is counted in the Census, and the
PALCUS “Make Portuguese Count” video was shown, along with brochures and pins,
promoting the initiative. All of our voices count, because as President Isabel Pires says,
"There is power in numbers".
It wasn’t all serious business at the event, as we were entertained by the hilarious and
talented Portuguese Kids. Their parodies, anecdotes about Portuguese culture in the
U.S., and interaction keep the audience engaged and energy flowing.
This beautiful event couldn’t have taken place without the TXPALC committee
members, under the leadership of Isabel Pires, who worked diligently to make this a
smooth and successful event. Their passion and dedication are to be commended. The
generosity of Portuguese-owned businesses and individuals were instrumental in
making this such a meaningful and historic occasion.
A great big thank you to all the sponsors.

As the organization grows, TXPALC will continue to unite the Portuguese community in
Texas through social, civic and cultural engagement activities. Please continue to look
for updates. Um abraço para todos.
